A magical Chinese-learning experience

Engage your young language learner with this unique bilingual book that comes to life in augmented reality!

A new way to learn Chinese

A Magical Book of Numbers is a bilingual children's book that will captivate your young language learner as they learn to count in Chinese! The book comes with a companion augmented reality (AR) app that magically brings the book to life — a pairing that's a first of its kind in the world of language learning!

A colorful and vibrant bilingual book

The book includes a diversity of vocabulary and measure words to expose your child to the intricacies of the Chinese language. Each page is written in Traditional Chinese, Pinyin, Zhuyin, and English.

How it works

Using the companion Kebi Books iOS app, simply point your camera at any page in the book and watch it come to life in animation, while a native Chinese speaker reads the characters on the page. You'll hear Chinese pronunciation accompanied by magical AR effects, encouraging your young language learner to count along. Without needing to be a native speaker yourself, you'll be able to support your child's language learning journey!

Mandarin and Cantonese

Toggle between a native Mandarin or Cantonese speaker at any time in the app! The book comes to life in either Pinyin or Jyutping, and the written words are highlighted while spoken in the target language.

What parents are saying

"Enthralled! My daughter was very excited to show everyone else. This is an awesome concept!"

"I love the simple design on the pages. The font and text size is perfect and not overwhelming. The finish of the page is beautiful."

"It's really neat! And feels "magical". My son thought the AR bits were fun and really enjoyed playing with it."

Story

My name is Nathan, the creator of this book and software developer of the companion AR app. I'm Canadian-born 🇨🇦 living in the US 🇺🇸 and a father to two beautiful daughters. Our household is a mix of Mandarin Chinese and English, and we're always on the hunt for more engaging Chinese and bilingual resources — thus, this book idea was born! The main purpose of this book's creation was to engage my young daughter in her language-learning journey. Every decision made in creating this book, including the illustrations, animations, voiceovers, and technological features, were made with her in mind and with her acting as my main tester and critic! I think we landed on an incredible design and concept together, and we're excited to share it with other young Chinese learners out there!

Frequently asked questions

Which devices are supported?
The Kebi Books iOS app requires the use of augmented reality (AR) on your device. A full list of AR-enabled devices can be found on Apple's website. Your iOS device must be on iOS 14 or greater to download this app. Unfortunately, Android is not yet supported.
Where do I download the app?
On your iOS device, scan the QR code either on the back of your book or in the materials provided, using the Camera app. The App Store link is also here. Note: the app has limited functionality without either a physical book or exclusive materials distributed by Kebi Books.
Why does the app require camera permissions?
Your device's camera is used to detect known images and superimposes them with virtual objects. The app never tracks or stores anything viewed through the camera.
Having trouble scanning pages in the book?
Try in a well-lit environment and ensure you're not seeing any glare. The camera has a hard time seeing when it's too dark or too bright!
It still doesn't work...
Sorry about that. AR and camera technology doesn't always work perfectly! Take a screenshot of what your camera is seeing and send it to kebibooks@gmail.com. We'll try to figure out what went wrong ASAP!
